Cheap Fall Break Fun!

Oldham County's Fall Break has some extra days this year.  Here are some cheap or FREE ways to enjoy the break around the area!

Students are off of school October 19-29, 2017

Check out our full list here. Be sure to come check out the silly, not scary haunted house at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen! Thursday, October 19th 2-7pm $3 per person, $9 max per family.

Farms/Animal Encounters:
Light the Night Corn Maze
Mulberry Orchard in Shelbyville
Friday, October 20th & Saturday, October 28th
Pack a flashlight and walk through the corn maze at night, sip some cider by the camp fire or roast marshmallows for s'mores
$5 per person, FREE for children 5 and under

Gallrein Farms
Located in Shelbyville
Several activities available only on the weekends, but if you want cheap fall fun, go during the week where you can visit the farm animals, play on the hay pyramid and enjoy a hayride to the pumpkin patch for less money.

Henry's Ark
Visit this little gem petting zoo in Prospect.  Don't forget to bring a donation for their revitalization project!  Also, remember they are closed on Mondays and you cannot feed the animals.

Salato Wildlife Education Center
Just a short drive to Frankfort.  Learn about Kentucky native animals!
Children ages 5-18 $3, Adults $5
Closed on Sunday & Monday.  Check out their Halloween event too!

Come Sew with Us
Oldham County Cooperative Extension Office in LaGrange
Monday, October 23rd
Bring memorabilia (such as Mom’s robe, Nana’s lace-trimmed pillow cases, Granddad’s button-up shirt) and make a new treasure that can be handed down to the next generation.  Receive FREE sewing instructions.  Children must have adult supervision.  A few sewing machines are available to use.

Art at the Library
October 23rd-27th Fall Creation Station at the Main Library branch in LaGrange.  Create together during regular library hours. FREE
Wednesday, October 25th Book O'Lantern Decorating  Bring your own pumpkin and decorate to look like your favorite book character. FREE 2-4pm

Kid's Pumpkin Painting
Reardon's Fruit Market & Garden Center in Crestwood
Saturday, October 28th
All kids 12 years and under can paint a pie pumpkin. We supply everything needed pumpkins, paint and supplies. We will have free games and face painting.

KMAC
Family Fun Day every Saturday.  Join KMAC educators for a FREE day of family art making for all ages! Tour KMAC's new exhibition, explore Art Ideas in Studio 715, and make art projects in the Education Studio.

It’s Fall Y’all! Climb to the top of Silo Lookout in Turkey Run Park to see the colors of fall. Later, we will walk the Hickory Trail and discuss the changing season.  Recommended for children 5-12.

Wilderness Louisville Forest Adventures

Saturday, October 21st
Forest staff and volunteers will introduce visitors to their native plant gardens and animal exhibits. Activities for children will be provided in the Nature Explore area. Climb the 52-ft Alpine Tower, try your hand at archery or fish on Mitchell Hill Lake. Free pumpkins, pumpkin decorating, and hay rides.

ColorFest
Bernheim Forest
Saturday, October 21st and Sunday, October 22nd
Celebrate the fall season at ColorFest – a family favorite! Visitors can slingshot pumpkins, naviagate the hay maze, make mud pies, and enjoy a hayride in the splendor of Bernheim’s colorful landscape. Other highlights include live music, hands-on nature activities, unique local foods, Kentucky arts and craft vendors, and more.

Josephine Sculpture Park
Located in Frankfort, this park is open 365 days and is always free.  Participate in the several scavenger hunts, look at the many sculptures on the grounds, have a picnic and enjoy the beautiful park.

Check out an Oldham County Park, picnic at Lake Jericho (boat and kayak rentals available) or visit a Hiking or Walking Trail!

Louisville Palace Halloween Movie Series
Watch a movie in the iconic theater.
