The Nature Center at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve

The Nature Center at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve is re-opening!

We are thrilled to hear that The Nature Center is finally re-opening after being closed for two years.  Visitors can, once again, enjoy the indoor, educational center.

When it’s too cold (or even too hot) to enjoy nature outside, Creasey Mahan’s Nature Preserve is the perfect place to explore.  The indoor center will re-open on Tuesday, April 12th at 2pm.  The center will remain open 2-5pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only.
There are 4 dioramas including wetlands, woodlands, Native American life and artifacts and Kentucky fish. The center’s murals are beautiful. We love the indoor scavenger hunt that sends us around the entire center.  The list included animals, stones, artifacts and other interesting items. The hunt allowed us to see the intricate details of the exhibits.

The bird blind is a neat room where we were able to use small binoculars to see around the garden outside.  Bird feeders and a small pond are outside where birds, squirrels and other furry friends are having fun.  My kids love to see the different color birds that eat from the feeders.  In the warmer months, the preserve has many butterflies and hummingbirds, and visitors can also see honeybees at work in this room.

There are plenty of hands-on activities for children to do at the center.  Complimentary crafts are set up for families to do together.  The Magical Forest Imagination Station is a small room where children can play with stuffed animals, read books or draw on the chalkboard.  There is also a small sandbox table filled with plastic bugs, reptiles and other creatures.

Groups can contact the center if they would like to set up a special visit.  Entry to the center and preserve is free.  The Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve relies on visitor donations, grants and other charitable donations.  Be sure to stop in soon, explore the center, walk the preserve, play at the new playgrounds and make a donation to keep this great center and other programs going.  The center is a great asset to Oldham County and the surrounding area.

Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve has something for everyone.  Visit today and see for yourself why it is such a treasure. The Nature Center is located in Goshen at 12501 Harmony Landing Road.
