Review of Little Dave's Roadhouse in Crestwood, KY

 photo Just Opened_zpsxwk1tnr0.png

Oldham County has a new restaurant located in Crestwood!  Little Dave's Roadhouse opened for business on Wednesday, June 22nd and we visited for lunch.

The restaurant is very large, with plenty of seating and nicely decorated with their roadhouse theme.  There is also outdoor seating available.  We had several servers come to our table during our visit to greet and help us.  We were served our drink orders along with fresh warm rolls with butter and cinnamon butter.  The cinnamon butter was a huge hit with the kids!

 photo roast beef_zpsz0hpyptb.jpg

I asked our server what she recommended I try off of the menu.  I ended up getting their Roast Beef Manhattan lunch plate.  This was roast beef piled on top of a piece of bread with mashed potatoes and topped with brown gravy.  There was a side of coleslaw and I also got to pick another side.  The portion was huge for lunch and for the price of $7.99!  I usually go for what I know off of a menu, but I'm happy I tried this dish.  It was very good!  The coleslaw tasted fresh and even the onion rings were perfectly prepared.

My friend ordered a hamburger with a side of fries and our children ordered the kid's mac n cheese and a hot dog, both with a side of applesauce.  The kid's meals were also good sizes and included a free drink for $4.99.  The kid's loved the mac n cheese - it was super cheesy and not the box brand.  We did have a dietary restriction at our table and our server was very accommodating and nice when we asked her to check the ingredients of one of the meals.

Little Dave's has a soup and salad bar, too!  Everything on the bar looked very fresh and the soups looked delicious.  You can get an unlimited soup and salad bar or add it to an entrĂ©e.  The desserts also looked divine.  They are made from scratch daily and include cobbler, pies and cheesecakes.
 photo salad bar_zpsnsrdxvva.jpg

Besides the desserts a few other menu items caught my attention.  The buffalo shrimp appetizer ($7.99), Big Hoss (16oz) Ribeye ($21.99) and Dave's Hot Brown ($11.99) all seem worth trying during a next visit for dinner.  Burgers, fried and grilled seafood, grilled and fried chicken, steaks and sandwiches are also available at Little Dave's Roadhouse.  There is also a veggie plate available.  Little Dave's will also serve alcohol as soon as their liquor license is in place.

We thought the lunch prices were very reasonable, especially for the portions we were served.  The fresh, warm rolls are a wonderful bonus and the variety of food is also nice.  I did inquire about a possible Kid's Eat Free or Cheap night.  They are working on starting one at this new location and currently have one at their Brandenburg location on Wednesday nights.  We will let you know as soon as we hear of a Kid's Night!

Like most Oldham County residents, we are excited for a new restaurant in town!  The attentive service and quality of food were fantastic on their opening day.  We will return and can't wait to try some more options off of their menu.

Little Dave's Roadhouse is open Monday-Saturday 10:30am-10pm and Sunday 9:30am-9pm
They are located at 6100 Crestwood Station Road in the Crestwood Station Shopping Center.
Phone: 502-915-7358

(There is a menu posted on their Brandenburg location Facebook page, but I did find that the prices were a little different than the Crestwood location.)

Review of Briar Hill Park in Crestwood, KY

 photo Briar Hill Park Header_zpsqqmd3yom.png

Location: 7400 E Orchard Grass Blvd Crestwood

Briar Hill Park can be reached off of Hwy 22 in Crestwood.  It sits between the Orchard Grass and Briar Hills neighborhoods. This park has a lot to offer visitors, but we were disappointed in the condition of the park on the day that we visited.  It was missing several playground features that were there the last time we visited.  The bucket swings for younger children and the jungle gym were gone.  The restrooms were also in terrible condition.  We are hoping that the missing playground components will be replaced soon and we just caught the restrooms on a bad day (ha!).
There are a few extra features that make up for the shrinking playground aspect of the park.  The sand volleyball court is great for kids to either actually play volleyball or for digging and playing.  The paved path around the playground is convenient for walking and biking.  On a warm day, my kids love to explore the hiking trails and creek.  Pack old shoes and bug spray and explore outside the playground area.  Learn more about the trails in our Hiking & Walking Trails list.

Playground Features:
  • Small play structure
  • 4 swings
  • 1 large individual slide and smaller slides
  • Rubber mulch

Other Features at the Park:
  • Sand volleyball with 2 nets
  • Basketball court with two goals
  • 2 Tennis courts
  • Paved path
  • Hiking/biking trails
  • Creek

Amenities:
  • Covered picnic area near playground with several tables
  • Additional covered picnic area near trails
  • Park benches
  • Restrooms
  • Water fountain

Review of Westport Park in Westport, Ky

 photo Westport Park Header_zpsfwx5tcgv.png

Location: 6617 Main Street Westport

Westport, Kentucky is a very small, quiet town in Oldham County located a windy, hilly drive down Hwy 524.  Westport Park can be found in this small community along the Ohio River and is a nice place to visit.  We love the peacefulness of the park.  The park only has a small playground structure and two swings, but is surrounded by a large greenspace.  Visitors should pack snacks and drinks or stop at Knock on Wood Country Mercantile in Westport for refreshments.  Westport Park is a great place for a slow, quiet day.  Pack a picnic lunch and extra play toys and equipment and enjoy the Ohio River sightseeing and playground together.

Playground Features:
  • Small play structure
  • 2 swings
  • 2 small slides
  • Tic-tac-toe game
  • Rubber mulch

Other Features at the Park:

Review of Wendell Moore Park in LaGrange, Ky

 photo Wendell Moore Header_zpsicmzrkre.png

Location: 1551 Hwy 393 LaGrange

Visitors to this park will not be left bored.  It is a large park with many open spaces and features to explore.  We like that the playground has two different play structures for different ages.  The larger play structure has several climbing, crawling and sliding features and the smaller playground is perfect for younger children.  The playground area is surrounded by a large greenspace and trees. There are several benches surrounding the playground also, but shade is minimal unless you sit under a shelter outside the playground area.  Near the playground area is also a large covered picnic shelter with many picnic tables, making it convenient to take a snack break while playing.  We do wish the restrooms were a little closer to the playground.  Wendell Moore Park is nice for playing and also exploring.  There is a lake with docks for fishing and paved trails, which are convenient for strollers and bikes.  Several programs and events are held at the community center, aquatic center and park throughout the year.  An entire day can be spent at this park between swimming at the aquatic center, picnicking under one of the shelters and playing at the large playground.

Playground Features:
  • Large play structure
  • Small play structure
  • 4 swings
  • 2 bucket swings
  • Slides (varying sizes)
  • Climbing wall
  • Benches surrounding the playground
  • Rubber mulch

image description image description image description

Other Features at the Park:
  • Basketball court with lowered goal and regular goal
  • 2 tennis courts
  • John W. Black Aquatic Center (admission fee) & Community Center
  • Lake with docks for fishing (with license)
  • Paved trails for walking or bike riding
  • Dog park (different section of the park, pet fee)
  • Pickleball court
  • Disc Golf
