Morgan's Run Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze

Please note that Morgan's Run is not opening for the 2017 season.

Located a short drive from Oldham County, Morgan's Run is a wonderful family farm offering Fall fun.  In its third season, the farm is growing and improving with new attractions and updates.

We love that the pumpkin patch is only ten minutes from Downtown LaGrange.  It is a smaller farm (compared to some of the other ones we normally visit), which means less crowds, but still enough to do with your family.  New this year, is a cute duck racing game located near the entrance to the farm.  Kids can race ducks down plastic gutters by pumping water through well pumps.  There are two tubs for bubble blowing, too.  Such a great and easy idea!  The open fields and wind were perfect to watch the bubbles float around the farm.

photo IMG_7559_zpswjokbix0.jpgFamilies can take a short hayride to the pumpkin patch to find the perfect jack-o-lantern.  There are also already picked pumpkins around the farm that you can choose too.  The hayride takes visitors back to the parking lot to drop off their pumpkins at their vehicles.

Another hayride will take you to the corn maze.  Expect to spend at least 30 minutes navigating through the corn maze.  There are questions to answer along the way to point you in the right direction.  We got a kick out of learning interesting facts about different animals.  (Google does work in the field in case you get stumped.)  The hayride was waiting for us when we finally made our way out of the corn maze.

photo IMG_7700_zpsa8kpwnjr.jpgOnce we were done with the corn maze, we were free to explore and play around the rest of the farm.  My husband and I took a break under the shaded pavilion while the kids enjoyed more of the duck game and bubbles.  Corn hole games were set up to play and the concession stand was open.  Concessions offered include hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, chips, popcorn and drinks.  When the weather starts to get cooler, the farm will serve chili, BBQ and other warm soups and foods.  There is a fire pit that will also open for nighttime visits where you can make s'mores.  The corn maze will be open for flashlight walks with glow sticks.

There is a fun playground area and small hay maze on the farm also.  The kids love to go down the big slide and race each other in the hamster wheels.  If you are adventurous, there is a 900 foot zip line that goes across one of the farm's lakes.

Admission to the farm includes all of the attractions (except for the zip line) and a pumpkin for each person. Bring cash for admission and the concession stand.  Admission is $7 for ages 5-12, $9 for over 12 and free for 4 and under.  The zip line is $10 for the first ride and $7 for the second ride (same rider).

Take the short drive up Hwy 146 to Dawkins Lane in Henry County.  Morgan's Run Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze is a great family farm to visit during the Fall season.  The farm is open on the weekends to the public and during the week for school groups.

Shine Music Together in Oldham County!

 photo SHINE_zpsi93vlj9j.png

The award-winning, internationally recognized Music Together classes are now offered in Oldham County! Shine is thrilled to offer its amazing Music Together program at the John W Black Community Center in LaGrange on Wednesdays at 10am beginning October 5th.

Join us for a FREE DEMO CLASS on Wednesday, September 28th at 10am.

Music Together is a research-based early childhood music and movement program that is designed to help bring your child to what we call Basic Music Competence - the ability to sing in tune, to keep an accurate beat and to enjoy the music of our culture in whatever way your child chooses!

The program is based on the belief that all children are musical and gain their musical skills the same way they learn all life skills - through the model of their primary caregivers and through PLAY!  Classes are 45 minutes in length and create a superfun musical community that provides a smorgasbord of musical "vitamins" that each child experiences in their own developmentally appropriate way.  We offer three 10-week semesters during the school year and a shorter summer session to ensure that through repeated exposure, children can learn experientially in class and then "practice" what they learn at home.

You can find more information about Music Together on our website

photo dish 2_zps5tme3vu6.jpg Gustavo's Mexican Grill is one of Oldham County's most popular restaurants!  If you have ever eaten at one of the other two locations, it's evident why families love Gustavo's!  The employees and owner (Gustavo Reyes) have customer service down to a tee-it is extremely fast and friendly!  On top of the high quality of service, expect to enjoy delicious Mexican food and drinks.  Be sure to try the Gustavo's Signature Fajitas, Shrimp Tacos, the Molcajete or a classic Enchilada dish.

Take advantage of some of the specials during the week.  A couple of the specials are: kid’s plates for $2.99 on Monday nights and ladies can enjoy drink specials on Thursday nights with 99₵ margaritas.  Celebrating a birthday or other special event?  Come to one of the locations for a special rendition of Happy Birthday and a free dessert, reserve one of the large party rooms or have your event catered by Gustavo’s Mexican Grill.

The service in the restaurants is impeccable, but a lot of other service is done behind the scenes, too.  Gustavo’s is involved in the Oldham County community and a big supporter of many programs.  The restaurant's name is well-known for it's food, but also recognized at special events, sponsorships and donations to various organizations in Oldham County.

Review of Peggy Baker Park in Crestwood

 photo Peggy Baker Park_zpsq0w1r3kh.png

Location: 6887 Abbott Lane, Crestwood

Peggy Baker Park is located in Crestwood off of Abbott Lane behind the Heritage Place neighborhood.  Children enjoy the park because of the merry go round, many swings and open spaces.  Families also like to use the park for bike riding when it isn't bustling with athletic practices.  The park is home to South Oldham Little League's ball fields, which means there is a lot of parking space area.  The back portion of the parking lot is great for bike riding because of the low amount of vehicle traffic.  There are several park benches around the playground, but not a whole lot of shade.  There is a covered gazebo picnic area, but it is located away from the playground.
