7 Fun Reasons to Visit the Oldham County Fair

We love that the Oldham County Fair offers the flair of a larger scale fair, but with a small-town community atmosphere! Here are our 7 FUN Reasons to visit!

 photo OC Fair Header_zpsgvl3gk4y.png
The Oldham County Fair is fun for everyone.  Here are 7 reasons you should go to the fair this summer!
  1. Low admission price!: It's only $12 for fair admission to the different entertainment scheduled and unlimited midway rides!  No waiting in long ride ticket lines when you get there.  Free admission for children 29" and below.  If they want to participate in the age-appropriate rides, caregivers will need to purchase individual ride tickets for them.  (Cash only at the admission gates.)
  2. Fair rides, games, and food!  There are rides for thrill-seekers and rides for younger children, too.  Take it easy on the ferris wheel or go crazy on the thrilling fireball ride!  The fair has usual fair food with corn dogs, funnel cakes and cotton candy or visitors can buy food from other local food vendors.
  3. Animals! Take a walk through the exotic animal petting zoo.  Learn about different animals or take a pony or camel ride!
  4. Contests! Oldham County residents can enjoy or enter the different contests going on during the fair.  Competitions include several categories such as best floral arrangement, photography, wine, jam, cake, bread, quilts and so much more!  Choose your competition: Floral, Home & Family Arts or Agriculture.  Cash prizes are given to the winners. Other competitions include pageants too!  Enjoy the pageantry of residents ranging from baby to Miss!  Boys and girls are in the pageants!  There is also a Mom of the Year, Dad of the Year and Special Needs competition.
  5. Track Entertainment! Pack a lawn chair and maybe even some earplugs for the nightly racing scheduled.  Sit on top of the hill and watch such races as Monster Trucks, Bulls & Barrels Rodeo, Demolition Derby, Truck & Tractor Pull and more.
  6. Music & Entertainment! There are several musical acts scheduled during the fair also.  A magic show, 4-H activities and local teen bands and other music can be enjoyed.
  7. Support your community and show pride in Oldham County! Walk around the fair to learn more about local businesses, community services, leaders and more.
Learn more about the different schedule of events and competitions on the Oldham County Fairgrounds website or Facebook page.

The Fairgrounds is located at 2401 West Hwy 146 in LaGrange.
The 2019 Fair is July 30-August 3.

Oldham County Day!

Celebrate our beautiful county in July!

photo Oldham County Day 2017 header_zpsuphzqke4.png
photo police_zpsmbdamkck.jpgOldham County Day is always celebrated the 3rd Saturday in July in Downtown LaGrange.  The 2019 date is July 20th and the theme is "Music Man."

Enjoy an all you can eat pancake breakfast on Saturday morning at the LaGrange Community Center on Jefferson Street 7-10:00am. There is a cost for the breakfast.
  • After you enjoy the pancakes, get set up to watch the parade in Downtown LaGrange.  The parade route begins near LaGrange Elementary School on West Jefferson Street. The route is opposite this year.  Participants will parade down Fifth Street to Main Street, turn left onto Main Street, parade to Walnut Street and take a left, up to Jefferson Street and will end at Fourth Street. The parade usually starts around 9:30am.  Make sure you arrive early to find a great spot to watch the parade!  Anticipate seeing the Grand Marshall, local school marching bands, tractors, horses, fire trucks, church, local business and other group floats that match the parade's theme for the year.
photo living statues_zpskqzjxx2f.jpgCheck out the over 120 booths on the courthouse square.  Many of the booths feature local businesses and organizations in the Oldham County area.  Meet local politicians, learn more about locally owned businesses, churches, maybe get a freebie or enter a raffle!  Food and drinks are also on the courthouse square.  In the past, a lot of the booths had kid-friendly giveaways (like Dairy Queen ice cream coupons), bounce houses and balloon artists and visitors saw living statues.
There is a lot of entertainment planned before and after the parade.  Listen to music while you're at the festival.  There is a great lineup of various artists.  Head to LaGrange Christian Church for children's Carnival 11am-1pm.  The Great Train Robbery, a cookout, face painting, and free tours will be at the Railroad Museum. It's definitely worth checking out the courthouse square and surrounding attractions after the parade!

Arrive early for parking! You can also sometimes find parking along the side streets surrounding the square and some local residents open their property (sometimes for a fee).

photo train robbery_zps26oubdh5.jpgAnd of course, always check out the other businesses in LaGrange!  A lot of the businesses and restaurants have special hours and activities during Oldham County Day!
Make sure you check the official Oldham County Day website and Facebook page for updates on this special event.  We wanted to allow our readers to have a general idea of what to expect during Oldham County Day, but realize that activities, event times and entertainment acts are subject to change each year.
